Michigan Seawall Installation
Protect Your Shoreline. Preserve Your Investment.
Over 1,000 seawalls installed across southeast Michigan since 2006.
Galvanized steel, rock, and rip-rap. All backed by a 10-year warranty.
Southeast Michigan’s Trusted Seawall Contractor
We’ve been building seawalls since 2006. Over that time, we’ve put in more than 1,000 walls across Livingston, Oakland, Genesee, and Washtenaw Counties. Small residential lots, large commercial properties, and even entire islands. Based in southeast Michigan, we also take on projects statewide when the job is right.
Every job comes with our 10-year warranty, and we handle the whole project from start to finish. That includes the site survey, EGLE and township permits, construction, backfill, grading, and cleanup. You don’t have to chase down permits or coordinate subcontractors. We take care of all of it.
Steel Seawalls – Our Specialty

Built for Michigan Ice. Built to Last Decades.
Steel is what we install the most, and there’s a good reason for that. Interlocking steel pilings get driven deep into the lake bed, then capped with welded angle iron and anchored with threaded-rod tiebacks to structural I-beam deadmen buried behind the wall. It’s a system that handles heavy ice, wave action, and whatever else Michigan throws at it.
We offer both black steel and galvanized steel. Black steel is the workhorse – strong, proven, and built to hold up for decades. Galvanized takes it a step further with a zinc coating that prevents surface rust and keeps the wall looking clean over time. Most of our customers go with galvanized and it’s what we recommend, but both are built to last.
- Heavy Ice Protection – Built for high-pressure Michigan lake ice, the number one cause of seawall failure in this state
- Galvanized Zinc Coating – Resists rust, corrosion, and UV damage. No painting, no sealing, no upkeep
- Welded Angle Iron Cap – We weld the cap directly to the pilings. No bolted connections that ice can shear off over time
- Structural I-Beam Anchors – Tiebacks spaced every 5 to 7 feet keep the wall straight and locked in place
- 10-Year Warranty – We stand behind every install. Our earliest walls from 2006 are still going strong
Best for lakes with moderate to heavy ice pressure, sand or firm soil conditions, and homeowners who want maximum durability with zero upkeep. Looking for seawall repair instead of a new install? Check out our seawall repair services.

Rock and Boulder Seawalls – The Premium Natural Option

Massive Ledgestone Walls That Transform Your Waterfront
Our rock and boulder walls are something we take a lot of pride in. We’re not just stacking rocks along the shoreline. We build large-scale ledgestone walls that can run hundreds of feet, with multiple tiers that step down the grade from your yard to the water. Stone steps get built right into the wall. Landscape lighting gets integrated into the design. The finished product looks like it belongs there.
Every stone is hand-selected and placed against high-quality filter fabric. It takes patience and a good eye, but when it’s done, you’ve got a wall that’s as much a feature of the property as the house itself. Rock walls work great on properties where the look matters just as much as the protection.
- Natural Ledgestone and Fieldstone – Hand-selected for fit, color, and structural integrity
- Multi-Tier Designs – Step-down walls that follow your property’s natural grade to the waterline
- Built-In Features – Stone steps, seating areas, and landscape lighting integration
- Environmentally Friendly – Natural materials that support shoreline habitat
- 10-Year Warranty – Same guarantee as our steel installations
Best for homeowners who want a high-end natural look, properties with moderate ice pressure, and shorelines where steel doesn’t fit the aesthetic. We also build standalone retaining walls for properties that need grade control without shoreline work.

Rip-Rap Shoreline Protection
Affordable Erosion Control for Rivers and Low-Pressure Shorelines
Rip-rap is the practical option when you need erosion control but don’t need a full piling wall. Large fieldstones get placed along the shoreline to break up wave energy and hold the bank in place. It’s most common along river frontage and canal properties where ice pressure isn’t a major concern but erosion is eating away at the land year after year.
- Budget-Friendly – Lower cost than steel or boulder walls while still providing solid erosion protection
- Natural Appearance – Blends into the shoreline without a hard structural look
- Great for Rivers and Canals – Designed for areas with low to moderate wave and ice pressure
- 10-Year Warranty – Same guarantee across all our seawall types
Best for river frontage, canal properties, and shorelines with low ice pressure where cost matters most. Rip-rap pairs well with our beach sanding service for a complete shoreline makeover.
We Go Where Others Can’t

Not every shoreline is easy to get to. Tight lots, steep hills, neighboring properties in the way, swampy ground that won’t support heavy equipment. We’ve seen it all. That’s why we built our own custom steel barge in-house, from our own blueprints, welded by our own guys. We load up the excavator, the welder, the materials, and we come to you from the water.
Other contractors turn these jobs down. We don’t. If there’s water, we can get there. Once the seawall is in, we can also install a permanent steel piling or cantilever dock and boat lift to complete your waterfront.
Common Questions About Michigan Seawalls
Yes. Seawall installations require EGLE (Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy) permits along with township approval. We handle the entire permit process as part of our service, from the application through final approval. You don’t have to deal with any of the paperwork.
It comes down to your shoreline. Steel is our go-to recommendation for lakes with heavy ice pressure because it gives you the strongest structural protection and the longest maintenance-free life. Rock and boulder walls are a better fit when the look of the wall matters just as much as the function, and ice pressure is moderate. We’ll take a look at your property and give you an honest recommendation during your free consultation.
Vinyl seawalls do exist, but they’re only rated for low ice pressure areas like small canals and sheltered waterways. Most of the lakes in southeast Michigan see enough ice that vinyl just isn’t a reliable long-term solution. We’ve seen too many fail. For any property with moderate or heavy ice conditions, galvanized steel is the better call. It costs more up front but lasts decades longer and requires zero maintenance.
Most residential jobs take 3 to 7 days once we’re on site. It depends on the length of the wall, what the shoreline conditions are like, and how easy the access is. Permits typically take 2 to 4 weeks to come through before we can start construction. We handle all of that for you so there’s nothing you need to do on your end.
It covers the structural integrity of the entire installation. That means the pilings, the cap, the tiebacks, and the anchors. We build our walls to outlast the warranty by a long shot. A lot of our earliest installs from 2006 are still standing with zero maintenance. If something fails because of our workmanship, we make it right.
