Brand New Galvanized Steel Seawall on the Grand River in Dimondale, Michigan

Even though the temperature’s dropping outside, Seaside Seawalls projects are still going strong! Most recently, we completed the installation of a brand new galvanized steel seawall for a residential customer on the Grand River in Dimondale, Michigan. The Grand River, which is the longest river in Michigan, spans a total distance of 252 miles and runs through several counties, including Eaton County. This particular project involved the installation of a brand new galvanized steel seawall with an inlet area and stairs to replace an old, failing wooden seawall. Before beginning any construction, however, we gathered the necessary materials and machinery we’d need for the job: a DEQ Permit, skid steer, excavator, galvanized steel, backfill sand, and fabric filter. We estimated the project time to completion at just about 4 days, and we were spot on! First, we installed the galvanized steel seawall with the help of our barge to complete the job! inlet area on grand river in dimondale_MIThe seawall ended up being 125 feet long and approximately 4 to 5 feet high. We used 8 to 9 foot pilings for the galvanized steel seawall with tiebacks at every 7.5 lineal feet. The inlet area dimensions were 4 feet by 5.5 feet, as it will be used as a boat access point for the customer when the water levels are high (water levels at the inlet area can fluctuate from 3 to 5 feet). A stairwell was also incorporated into the seawall to be used in the future as steps down into the water. As usual, after our construction was completed, we backfilled the seawall and graded, top-soiled, and seeded the entire area. As you will see from the images below, this job completely transformed the look of this waterfront property!
